Weather Update

We had close to 300ml of rain flow through the property over the weekend. Gosford featured heavily in the news for the amount of rain we received. On the plus side, we were able to reopen our course on Sunday while most other courses on the coast remained closed.

Furthermore, our Trackman Simulator rooms were booked out for the entire weekend with only 20mins of free space on the Saturday. Be sure to book in next time the rain disrupts your golfing plans.

The course is obviously still a bit wet in low lying places and the rough will take a while before it can be cut back, so we ask for your patience while our greenstaff  attend to the course.

We have a few new staff members added to our team for the coming months to complete course works. They will also assist with disruption caused by the recent rainfall.

Update from Renos

Greens were cored on Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th March this year and received some heavy dressing which was brushed in a few days after reno’s. No greens lifted up during the process and signs of damage during coring were minimal. The greens were expected to close up and be back to getting them down to a decent playing length this week, but unfortunately the weekend’s deluge will put a time delay on that process.

The greens team will do their best to tackle the bunkers, get on top of areas heavily affected by the weather and get the property’s grasses back down to playing heights this week when the weather is a bit kinder to us.

Our arborist was also on course during renovations to tackle a few more dead trees and he has made safe multiple areas on course which were on his radar.

Major Course Works

Recently the greens committee made a recommendation to the board of Directors to do a full excavation of our current second green. This was approved by the board and works will commence this coming Monday 8th April.

This green will get a full USGA spec rebuild to rectify problems which come back year after year (seen in the pictures below) to do with the drainage, and compaction of the subfloor. A more detailed email will be sent to the membership in due course with updates on this project.

While work is being carried out on the second hole, it will be reduced from a par 5 to a par 4, with the green in play becoming the nursery green which is halfway up the second hole on the left hand side.

On Monday 8th April only 17 holes will be in play for greenstaff to carry out necessary works to the nursery green. All golfers will be required to walk the 2nd hole instead of playing it (reducing their round to 17 holes) Signage will be in place on the course.

When work commences, bent grass will be taken from the middle of the second green and used to fix up other greens on course including the 17th.

All competitions will be updated accordingly, Golf NSW and Miclub have been informed of the change and member’s handicaps/scorecards will reflect the new course in play both on scorecards and on the APP.

Zoysia

An Update on our zoysia projects will be sent out shortly. We have the results of our three years of testing which we would like to share with the membership. Watch this space.n
