Ladies Captain's Report

Opening Day on Tuesday the 2nd of February was a success. We had a slightly reduced field of 81 players as rain was forecast & a few people cancelled. It was good to see that a number came in later for lunch. The commencement of the Continuous Competitions kicked off on Opening Day so be sure to record your birdies & gobblers & place the sheet in the appropriate box upstairs.

We are pleased to announce that Bendigo Bank & Creightons will continue to be the two major sponsors of Gosford Ladies golf. Bendigo Bank will support our Open Day in May and Creightons will split their funds between Club Championships & Invitation Day.

Both the CCWGA Opening days went well, Shelly Beach & Breakers were the host clubs & 216 players enjoyed the day. Lifeline will remain the CCWGA charity for 2021. Gosford has already donated a large sum of money raised at our Christmas Ambrose & Liz has initiated Ricochet clothing again as an easy fundraiser. We will continue to make contributions to the CCWGA throughout the year.

The VW Scramble took place on Thursday the 15th of February. There were ten team in all, seven from Gosford & three from Shelly Beach. Shelly Beach won first & third prizes & a Gosford team came in second.

The first round of the popular Top Ten Shootout is scheduled for the 2nd of March. We have a record number of participants, 59 players in all. The list is pinned to the board in the Ladies locker room & the results will be updated after every round.

St Patrick's Dice Day replaces Joker Day and will be played on the 16th of March. The timesheet is already open and filling up fast. It will be an 8.00am shotgun start and the event is a team Stableford with 2 scores to count. The throw of the dice will add an Irish twist to the format - instructions to follow. In the spirit of the Irish, Green Ball day will be played on Thursday the 26th of March; it is a 3 person team stableford with 2 scores to count.

The Pennant season starts on the 15th of March. The first round is at Gosford and our team, which is in the Banksia pool this year, will have a bye. Kieran will run a clinic for the Pennant players on Friday the 19th of March at 9am and Sharon will recap the match play format for those who haven't played it before. She has the new pennant shirts for 2021. These have been kindly sponsored by the club & will be distributed to the Pennant players in the next couple of weeks.

Open Day will take place on the 11th of May and Bendigo Bank will be the major sponsor of the event. Entry forms have been circulated to clubs & posted on the CCWGA Facebook Page and the response has been encouraging thus far.

Please note that Nearest the Pins are back in play and that from the 1st of March the timesheet moves to a 7.30 start.

F-Troop Report

For the month of February 2021 our average number of volunteers reduced to 10 due to health issues and work commitments. We have soldiered on with the help of another new regular Les Wielinga which has been appreciated.

You will have noticed that the council have finished a portion of the new bike path on Racecourse Road which has given us a new fence and repairs done to the garden.

Projects worked on this month were:

  • Rubbish and loose timber pick up around the course
  • Tree maintenance
  • Hedge maintenance
  • Firewood preparation for next year's firewood supplies
  • Removal of weed from the dams
  • General garden weeding and tidying up
  • Cleaning of the bush toilets
  • Tidy up around the clubhouse and BBQ area
  • Tidy up of pathways to the 1st and 10th tees including the wedding garden and practice nets
  • Clean- up of the car parks
  • Mulching of gardens

We are always looking for more volunteers so if you have some spare time on Monday mornings to help with our projects we would be happy to see you.

The F-Troopers meet at the Green Keepers Shed at 7.00 am and work through until 10.00 am after which we have morning tea supplied by the club.

Physio Golf Blog

Flexibility and stretching for Golf.

Golf is a game that requires good flexibility and mobility of your muscles and soft tissue for success.

Everyone know that feeling of teeing off "cold", because you are running late and not having the movement and flexibility required for a golf swing - you just play poorly, with poor timing of the shot and a lack of co- ordinated strength.

All this can be avoided with warming up well and especially stretching.

Stretching is required to improve your flexibility and muscle mobility, and improving the mobility around your hips and legs is very important in improving your ability with a golf swing.  We have discussed the importance of thoracic or chest and upper back rotational mobility in previous blogs and our Golf warm up video series

our video series gives you an example of a basic golf warm up.

The following new video shows you some basic lower body stretches which will make your golf swing more flexible and help you to move better with golf. With greater flexibility , you will have greater range in your body for a better swing , so you can create more power and hit the ball further ( give it a go)

Click on the link to see a demonstration of some basic lower body and trunk stretches.

https://youtu.be/-bB0HmG2fP0

Don't forget, you become tight in muscles when you use them, and often the next day. So, apply some of these simple stretches during your game and when you get home.

Stretching regularly, helps to maintain mobility as we age and the over 50 's that I see in my clinic who don't exercise or stretch regularly are generally much stiffer in their appearance and don't move as well. Unfortunately, this can lead to joint stress, arthritis, and pain. Lack of flexibility also makes you more likely to injure yourself or strain a muscle when you move quickly.

So, watch the videos and give the stretches a go, what do you have to lose (except tight muscles).

Good luck and let me know how you go with these routines.

Happy Golfing

Cheers
